Founding of Intellectual Polymer Design, LLC

We are excited to announce the founding of Intellectual Polymer Design, LLC

The Founding of the Future:

Intellectual Polymer Design was founded to pioneer novel photoreactive materials and UV photopolymer resins for SLA additive manufacting. The science fiction fantasies of 20th century writers are not a distant future potential; rather they are coalescing right now. IPD seeks to lead the way in innovation of these not-so-distant scientific advances.

The field of additive manufacturing continues to evolve and expand as new manufacturing techniques emerge. MSLA 3D printing is one such example, which has become widespread due to the rising efficiency and low manufacturing costs of liquid crystal displays. While entry into additive manufacturing has been cost prohibitive for individuals in the past, the commercialization of MSLA 3D printers has made access easier than ever. At the time of writing, one may obtain a high quality MSLA 3D printer for a few hundred dollars. Access to this technological is available to anyone with a workbench and the desire to make novelty palpable. Placing the future of additive manufacturing into the hands of individuals is the goal of IPD.

Most commercially available 3D printing resins consist of (meth)acrylate based monomers, photoinitiators, and UV blockers. Therefore, the mechanical and physical properties of 3D printed resins are often confined to the material characteristics exhibited by poly(meth)acrylate copolymers. Intellectual Polymer Design seeks to broaden the capabilities of 3D printed resins beyond that of current (meth)acrylate polymer systems. To overcome these limitations, we created Light Link™ SLA Resin Made With Kynar® PVDF

Light Link™ SLA Resin Made With Kynar® PVDF is a novel photopolymer resin for use in DLP & SLA 3D printers. This resin is the first commercial Kynar® PVDF 3D printable resin. Light Link™ combines the high resolution of SLA/DLP 3D printing with the unique material properties of PVDF. Our resin is compatible with most DLP, LCD, LED, SLA, MSLA, and light-based 3D printers at 405nm wavelength.

Light Link™ 3D Printing Resin is a specially engineered resin which allows users to print Kynar® PVDF using SLA/DLP 3D printers in their own homes. Whether one wants to print PVDF miniatures or specialty PVDF components, this resin is up to the task. This low-odor resin prints with ease, requires short exposure times, and utilizes convenient post-processing methods. Light Link™ was formulated for low shrinkage and easy removal from the build plate. No matter the printing task at hand, Light Link™ excels at making precision prints!

Origins:

Intellectual Polymer Design, LLC was founded as a result of the collaboration between Nile Polymers, Inc. and Tetra Growth LLC. Nile Polymers is the foremost, premium manufacturer of FDM 3D printed Kynar® PVDF Filament. They also produce “cable ties, mixers and bottles for the fine chemical, biopharma and semiconductor industries using Kynar® PVDF”. It all began with a question posed by Dr. Howard Fisher, President of Nile Polymers: “Can we make a PVDF photopolymer resin?” We decided to team up with the experts at Nile Polymers to answer this question. After months of collaboration, Nile Polymers and Tetra Growth forged the newest generation UV photopolymer resin for SLA additive manufacturing: Light Link™ SLA Resin Made With Kynar® PVDF.

Staying true to their mission statement and goals “To provide cost-effective PVDF products for industry without concessions to cheap materials or manufacturing shortcuts,” Nile Polymers remains an industry leader in making revolutionary PVDF products. As a result of the successful collaboration, we decided to team up with Nile Polymers to form a joint venture. This is Intellectual Polymer Design; a powerhouse of expertise and talent determined to pioneer novel photoreactive materials and UV photopolymer resins for SLA additive manufacturing.
